TITLE
Rheological Behaviour in Multi-Step Hot Forging Conditions

ABSTRACT
The effects of multi-step hot deformation conditions on the rheology of different metals, a high carbon steel, a stainless steel and a Nickel-based superalloy, are investigated through physical simulation tests. In these experiments, the thermal and mechanical events occurring during multi-step forging operations are accurately reproduced on real-material samples. The approximations in calculating the material flow strength that are introduced by conventional testing procedures based on iso-thermal and constant strain-rate tests are evaluated and discussed. The suitability of simple two-steps upsetting experiments to analyse material rheology in industrial processing conditions is assessed.
