Friction in Modeling of Metal Forming Processes
Besides the flow stress, friction is one of the important input parameters in
modeling metal forming operations. The calculation of process forces, stresses in the tools
and the shape of the workpiece is strongly dependent on the friction law and the input
variables. This paper will therefore present simulation results investigating the following
friction-related topics and their dependence on the friction: The calculation of contact
stresses, which are an important input to the evaluation of the tribological system in cold
forming; the formation of roll-over in fine blanking; the stress-strain path of the formed
material resulting in different predictions of formation of ductile fracture.
