Numerical Simulation of the Slug Riveting Process
This paper deals with the simulation of the riveting process with the aid of the FORGE2 finite element software and the comparison between simulated and experimental results in terms of geometrical characteristics of the deformed slug and applied riveting forces. An experimental design methodology is first used to study the influence of the variability of some geometrical parameters such as the cavity, the length and height of the undeformed slug and the hole diameter of the sheets. Then, the influence of the constitutive law of both the slug and the sheets is studied and a friction model taking into account an evolution of the friction coefficient between the slug and the sheets during the panel assembly is proposed.
