Numerical and Experimental Study of AA6063 T-Shape Tube Hydroforming
A feed driven hydroforming process is utilized on extruded aluminium tubes to generate a T-bulge. The influence of process parameters such as end-feed and internal pressure is systematically analyzed by conducting a coordinated experimental and numerical study to simulate the process window and maximize the T-bulge height. The simulated process window, hydroformed shape and strain paths of selected material points were compared to the experimental results and a good correlation was obtained. Finally, the influence of extrusion welds on the failure patterns during hydroforming was analyzed experimentally. It was found that the differences in the microstructure of the weld region compared to the surrounding material as well as the stress-state while hydroforming were responsible for the observed failure pattern.
