Analytical Modeling of CRTM and RTM Processes. Part I : General Mathematical Development
The aim of this study is to contribute to the optimization of RTM and CRTM composites manufacturing processes. The objective functions essential to this optimization (processing time, lost resin volume, mould closing pressure, etc.) are developed via an analytical approach. The problems related to the CRTM process (imposed fibre volume rate or the technical feasibility) are analyzed and formulated so that they can be taken into account in a numerical optimization. Various manufacturing conditions are considered according to the chosen values of injection and compression parameters. A comparison between RTM and CRTM processes is described. This work not only contributes to the optimization of processes generally, but also provides a tool for the control of the CRTM and RTM processes thanks to the formulation of the objective functions we developed.
