TITLE
Optimizing Metal Forming Process Using Response Surface Approximation and Inverse Approach

ABSTRACT
We develop a Response Surface Methodology for numerical experiments using finite element software for the preliminary design of deep drawing process parameters. The specificity of our approach is the choice of a regression model based on Moving Least Squares (MLS) approximation. This choice is guided by the characteristics of the MLS, and particularly its smoothness and locality. Furthermore, it allows the construction of a specific, efficient minimization algorithm which exploits the particularities of the approximation. The method is applied then to solve optimization problems encountered in sheet metal forming processes. The two applications concern the minimization of springback effect at the end of forming operation, by means of the tools geometry optimization and the blank material identification. During the optimization process we use the one-step Inverse Approach. The results are validated using ABAQUS® Standard and Stampack-Incremental® commercial codes.
