TITLE
A Finite Element Method (FEM) Based Approach to Model the Tempering of Axisymmetric Glassware

ABSTRACT
Glass tempering is strengthening of glass by inducing residual stresses due to rapid cooling. In order to improve the tempering quality of glassware the physical phenomena that takes place during the process - flow of the cooling air around the product, heat transfer between the glass product and the cooling air and the resulting stress distribution due to viscoelastic nature of glass ­ must be analyzed. Here, a numerical method is devised to simulate the glass tempering process by using commercially available FLOTRAN and ANSYS codes. Velocity, temperature and stress fields are computed by the devised scheme and presented.
