TITLE
Analysis of the Interply Porosities in Thermoplastic Composites Forming Processes

ABSTRACT
Forming of continuous fiber reinforced thermoplastics (CFRTP) is an economically interesting process mainly because of its short cycle. However, effective forming requires a detailed understanding and modeling of the forming mechanisms and the development of computational techniques for process simulation. The present paper focuses on the modeling of the re-compaction stage, which is ending the forming operation. As is shown by micrographies, this stage is crucial in order to avoid porosities between the fiber layers of the final part. A specific shell finite element with strain/stress through the thickness is described in this paper in order to model the compaction.
