Tensile Uniform Strain Analysis after Drawing of AISI 304 Stainless Steel Bars
In the present work, the prediction of the uniform tensile strain of a prestrained metal is presented. A one pass drawing (two die semi-angle and area reduction conditions) was performed in AISI 304 stainless steel bars. The uniform tensile strains and the effective stress-effective strain curves of the drawn material were obtained. The tensile uniform strain of the metal after drawing was compared with the value theoretically expected for homogeneous straining. The effective strain distribution in the cross section of the drawn bar was obtained using the finite element method (FEM). The simulation allowed the calculation of the average strain in the process, which was employed as a correction in the previous prediction of the uniform strain. A similar approach was also followed for the central 50% nucleus of the drawn metal.
